Holding A Vision for True Love

As a Feng Shui Consultant and a professional organizer, it’s my job (and actually probably encoded in my DNA) to help people clean up and declutter their lives so that they may embrace flow, ease and grace. I often coach my clients into shedding objects that just don’t work for them anymore. Usually they are holding on to these objects out of fear (I may need it), hope for the future (I better fit into those size 4 jeans again), guilt (your mother in law gave it to you) or sentimentality (2700 pictures your kid drew in kindergarten – and he just turned 32).

Recently, I discovered that I had a bit of housekeeping to do myself, to build clarity around my vision for a true love!

On December 29th, I had the great good fortune to be invited to my friend Mary’s house to make Vision Boards and set intentions for 2010.  She’s a Life Balance Expert.  While homemade soup simmered on the stove and in our nostrils, we sipped red wine, nibbled on crudités and ripped pictures out of magazines of what we wanted to create.  I found pictures and words that stirred my desire for deeper friendships, more clarity on my spiritual path, more commitment to my spiritual practice, dynamic creativity, vibrant well being, heartfelt love and pictures of riches like mountain retreats, a new Hybrid car, and an upside down umbrella catching my windfall from the Universe.

Words like… “lighten up for enlightenment, joy, life on my terms, world of inspiration, glow younger every day, whole life, carve a new path”… all of these words were specifically picked because they uplifted me! There wasn’t one display of the word PERFECT, which has shown up on all of my previous Vision Boards throughout my adult life.   And DNA be darned, I think I’ve finally realized that life is messy (OH MAMA!) and I’ve discovered that my search for “perfect” has left me in search mode much longer than I would care for, missing the greatness right in front of me.

Most of all, I had a wonderful experience with how I displayed my desire for a great love on my Vision Board.  First I tore out one of those adorable Gap ads, with two absolutely perfect (uh-oh, there it is) young, beautiful, vivacious “models” playing together.  HE has his arms wrapped around her flat belly and has picked her up from behind and is swinging her around.  SHE has her golden locks flying around her perfect face, in the perfect sunlight and they are both smiling brightly with their perfectly whitened teeth!  Ah, the image of a perfect love and happiness.

Much later, after I had already glued Ken and Barbie to my Vision Board, I found another picture.  This picture is of a beautiful couple in their forties, HE stocky and bald, SHE with long red hair and glasses, HE with an earring and love patch on his chin and SHE with a few extra pounds on her luscious curvy body.  They have their arms wrapped around each other and they are looking at each other lovingly, nose-to-nose and eye-to-eye, with sweet knowing smiles.

Have you seen Avatar? “I see you!”

I took this picture of Bob and Sue and I pasted it on top of Ken and Barbie because this is the kind of love that I really want.  A real-true-honest-playful-connected-seeing-each-other-kind-of-love.   Every time I look at that Vision Board I realize that I have grown so much lately, realizing that what I thought I wanted, a “perfect” love, was so limiting and kept me from having what my heart really yearns for.  (Yikes, I ended my sentence with a prepositional phrase. It’s a blog who cares…)

Now you’re wondering what this has to do with Feng Shui?  Here it comes.  I wondered where I should hang my Vision Board.  After some careful consideration, I decided all the intentions and images on my piece of poster board would best boost the energy in the “knowledge” corner of my house.  If you were standing at your front door facing in, that would be the room in the lower left hand corner of your home.  The Knowledge corner represents knowing yourself deeply and profoundly, so that you may walk your life path with grace, including having a healthy and wonderful relationship.   The energy in this area is like the monk going into the cave (no distractions) to know himself so he may then bring all of himself to the city (chaos) and still be himself.

I took a look around the Knowledge corner of my home, which includes part of the kitchen and part of the living room. I was surprised by what I saw in my perfectly Feng Shui’d home!  HA!

Now would be a good time to share that Feng Shui is a process, a living, breathing practice.  Since we are always changing and growing, it’s wise to always keep a Feng Shui eye on our ever-changing environment.

On the counter in the kitchen I have a big clog up with spices, vitamins, protein powders, olive oil, honey, nuts, a George Forman Grill and my Bullet. These are all common in a kitchen, but they were all cluttered on the counter and certainly not allowing for energy to flow.   I bought three sweet little baskets and categorized my mess!

And lo and behold, I found a rather large empty picture frame behind my couch!  How did that get there?  I must have, during some unconscious moment, put it there!  What was I thinking?  A large empty picture frame?  If I saw this in a client’s home, I would suggest that there might be “an emptiness” in truly knowing their whole self.  This resonated within me with a resounding, “DUH!”  I immediately moved the frame into a closet, where an empty picture frame is better stored, and will find an image to put in the frame in the very near future.

After clearing up and out some of the blocks, I hung my Vision Board in my Knowledge corner and set the intention to know myself so well that I may manifest all of the things my heart desires, including a great and true love, which will possibly be messy, but he will be perfect for me.

Shine on beauty. I am knowing ALL good flowing to you in all ways. And may all the good you give to soooooo many come back to you a hundred fold.
